We would like you to invite for Warsaw Autumn Concert of The Youth Circle of Polish Composers Union. The concert will feature the first performance of a new work by Tomasz Opalka - x-Pose - for quartet with very unusual scoring for clarinet/bass clarinet, accordion, cello and electric guitar. After the performances, the jury—led by Eugeniusz Kanpik, assisted by Zbigniew Bujarski, Krzysztof Droba, Jerzy Kornowicz and Stanisław Krawczyński—decided to award the Grand Prize to Tomasz Jakub Opałka for his composition, Przestrzenie (SPACES) for large orchestra. This prize is worth 50,000 PLN Mr. Opałka, 27, is a student of the Chopin Music University in Warsaw. He disclosed that his composition was inspired by words of Henryk Mikołaj Górecki about “searching for music that is festive in itself and aiming on high.” In an interview with the festival’s artistic director, Małgorzata Janicka-Słysz, Mr. Opałka further stated, “I composed this piece thinking of the Wawel Royal Castle; it is an exceptionally symbolic space, ideally given to music that is festive, inspiring, and regal.” Here you can see and hear interviews with nominated composers and framents of the concert http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lqE-e18Q8EQ&feature=player_embedded |

Tomasz is nominated for "Wawel: Musica Festiva" Award. He is nominated for his orchestral work: "Przestrzenie" (Spaces) Other nominees are: Zbigniew Bargielski - "Misterium Przestrzeni" & Łukasz Pieprzyk - "Szarże". Royal Wawel Symphony Orchestra will perform nominated pieces at the concert which will be held in Krakow on July 15th 2010 at the Wawel Castle (Arcade Courtyard). In the second part of the concert orchestra will perform Górecki's Symphony No.2 |
